Christmas Market in Vigo di Fassa

“Pìcol, bon e bel”: il mercatino di Natale nel cuore del borgo, a pochi passi dall’Hotel Rosa

When snow covers the Dolomites, Vigo di Fassa, listed among “I Borghi più belli d’Italia” (the most beautiful villages in Italy), fills with lights and festive scents. In the little square in front of the tourist office and on the terrace of Ciasa Marmolada, the wooden stalls of the “Pìcol, bon e bel” market come to life: small, good and beautiful, just as its Ladin name says.

It is an intimate, authentic market, far from the crowds of the big city markets. Artisans from the valley offer Christmas decorations made from natural materials, paintings, wooden objects, textiles, embroidery and handmade homeware in the Fassa tradition: gift ideas you won’t find anywhere else.

At the kiosks you can warm up with hot tea, mulled wine and roasted chestnuts, and on Friday afternoons traditional apple fritters with icing sugar and cinnamon are served. Around the village the fountains are decorated with nativity scenes made by sculptors, local associations and residents of Vigo, with Christmas Selfie Points along the trail. A giant Advent calendar opens on the façade of Ciasa Marmolada, and children can post their letters to Father Christmas.

From Hotel Rosa, in the village centre, the market is just a few minutes’ walk away: after a day on the slopes or in the Dolomiti Wellness Centre & Spa, simply step outside and soak up the Christmas atmosphere of the Fassa Valley.

Other Christmas markets in the Fassa Valley

The other markets in the valley are easy to reach from Vigo di Fassa: Moena, with the “Mercatini della Fata”, the largest in the valley, with a carousel, a little train and visits from St Nicholas, Father Christmas and the Befana; Campitello di Fassa, a small market at the foot of the Sassolungo; and Canazei, with the Maitin market in the upper valley.
